When a Death Occurs

Mt. Calvary & Gethsemani Catholic Funeral Services will handle the following for you:

  • Transport your loved one into our care
  • Explain and arrange various service options available
  • Coordinate with the church, pastor and cemetery or crematory
  • Review pre-planned cemetery arrangements or explain cemetery options
  • File the death certificate
  • Assist with the obituary
  • Notify the Social Security Administration
  • Arrange for Veteran Burial Benefits


When a death occurs in your family, you will be faced with important tasks and choices to make during that moment.

 

You may not know what to do or when to begin making arrangements. Bearing the responsibility can be overwhelming. Remember that you are not alone, Mt. Calvary & Gethsemani Catholic Funeral Services will be here to comfort and support you.

 

Immediate steps to follow at the time of a home death:

  1. Dial 911 to report the death, or if your loved one is under the care of Hospice, call the hospice organization immediately.
  2. Contact the funeral home - Gethsemani Funeral Home 503-659-1350

Contact with the cemetery is not an immediate necessity. You will need to contact the cemetery 48 hours in advance of the cemetery interment, but initial contact can be made by the funeral home.
