William Kermit Noll

William Kermit Noll was born December 6, 1929, to Adolph Frank Noll and Anna Dora Sherman Noll in Easton, Kansas. Kermie was the last of nine children in a loving family that looked out for one another during hard times.

During World War II, he came to Portland with his parents, where they reunited with siblings, and he graduated from Lincoln High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948, during the Korean War, but was fortunate not to be stationed in a combat zone. Instead, he cruised around the Mediterranean, sewing parachutes and jumping with them. He very much enjoyed his time in the service, and during this time he became known as "Bill" to the greater world.

After being discharged, he went to Tillamook to work with his oldest brother, who owned the Noll Appliance Store and a gas station. There he met his wife, Donna Oliver, and they married in 1953. They had their first three children in Tillamook: Daniel, Verna, and Patrick.

Around 1962, Bill went to work for BL&C and moved his family to Salem, where Cindy was born. In 1969, they moved to Beaverton and purchased a filbert farm in Scholls. Bill continued working for BL&C. Donna sadly passed away in November 1988.

Bill met Jill Thornton the following year, and they were married in August 1990, followed by a Catholic ceremony in March 1991. Together they worked hard and played hard, traveling to Europe six times, to Mexico, taking cruises in the Caribbean, visiting Africa, and enjoying a Viking river cruise through Russia. They also attended—and later hosted—many memorable family reunions.

Bill passed into the Lord's care on July 15, 2026, at the age of 96. He was fortunate to pass away peacefully, on his own terms, in his own bed. Many of his beloved family members were able to visit him in the days before he passed, while he was still able to speak and recognize them. The outpouring of caring, love, and support was a true blessing.

Bill is survived by his children: Dan and his wife, Kathy; Verna; Pat and his wife, Barb; Cindy and her husband, Jeff; and his stepson, Dane, and his wife, Cassandra. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
