IN LOVING MEMORY
William “Bill” Lindekugel
January 30, 1946 – August 30, 2026
William “Bill” Lindekugel, the oldest of six children, was born January 30, 1946, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Yakima, Washington, to James H. and Zeta Evonne Lindekugel. He lived a life marked by faith, service, and deep devotion to the people he loved.
Bill was a loving husband to Bobbie, his wife of 44 years. The two of them depended on God to carry them through difficult times. Bill was never interested in material things. His strong faith led him to do what he could for others, and his favorite hours were spent with family — watching them grow into wonderful people, staying interested in whatever they were doing, and guiding them toward a relationship with God.
He worked in Sales and Marketing at Kaiser Permanente for 27 years and formed strong relationships with his coworkers. After work and well beyond it, he gave his time freely. He volunteered with UPCAP at the University of Portland and, with Barb, served in VISTA in New Mexico as a community organizer. He was always willing to help — leading or supporting Bible study and Centering Prayer, picking up bread at Franz Bakery for the food pantry, serving the food pantry at St. Rita, and showing up for anyone who needed him.
Faith was the center of his life. He was part of the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church family and belonged to St. Rita Catholic Church for 26 years. After he and Bobbie moved to Vancouver, Washington, in 2023, he attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He practiced meditation twice a day using tools he learned from Centering Prayer.
Bill also had strong relationships with his many friends in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he remained active for more than 28 years. He was deeply involved with the Eastside Sunrise AA group and was always willing to help others in recovery. Until shortly before his passing, he sent his morning “grateful” list to some of his AA friends and to his great-grandson Rorey.
He loved fishing and could not drive past a boat for sale without stopping to look, or resist checking listings online. There were many stories of successful outings and of mishaps, including those involving the Blue Bell. He enjoyed golfing as well, and he read spy novels with real pleasure. Music was a constant companion — especially Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Roy Orbison, and Celine Dion, which he could listen to over and over.
Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bobbie; his children Joe, Jason, Rob, and Kim; Joe and Jason’s mother, Barb; his grandchildren Henry, Charlie, Elliot, Francis, Megan, and Mallory; and his great-grandchildren Rorey, Riley, Brody, Anakin, and a new baby. He is also survived by his siblings Jim, Buck, Jan, Marie, and Lauretta, and by many friends whose lives he quietly strengthened.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Zeta.
Service will be held at Holly Redeemer Catholic Church, 17090 NE 9th St, Vancouver Wa on September 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
