William "Bill" Florine

Portland, OR

William “Bill” Florine passed away unexpectedly July 12th, 2025 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 76. He was born in Ithaca, New York to Margaret and Robert Florine. Bill earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Oregon and an M.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma. Bill moved to Portland, Oregon to work for Tektronix, where he met his wife, Kathy. They were married for 43 years, built a home in Bauer Woods, and raised two daughters, Emily and Meredith. Bill worked for Tektronix for 35 years and retired in 2008. Bill and Kathy recently moved to Claremont in Bethany, Oregon.

Bill enjoyed hiking with his wife, working out at the gym, tackling home projects, drinking good bourbon, playing with their dog Lucy, and fishing on the Deschutes River. Those who knew him would describe Bill as kind, humble, intelligent, funny, and generous. He will be greatly missed as a wonderful husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend.

Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Emily and Meredith; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harry Backeberg; their sons Chris and Drew Backeberg, and their wives, Heather and Kristen; and their children Kate, Brynn, Madison, and Kennedy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 1pm at Bauccio Commons at the University of Portland.
