Thomas "Tom" Michael Jorgensen, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children. Tom was born on New Year's Day, 1941, in Spencer, Iowa, to Ken and Ann Jorgensen. While not the first baby born in Iowa that year, he proudly held the distinction of being the fourth. He spent much of his youth in Redmond, Oregon. In 1961, Tom moved to Portland, where he began a 40-year career at The Oregonian. Starting in an entry-level position, he worked his way through the organization and retired as Manager of the Credit Department. On his very first day at The Oregonian, Tom met the woman who would become his wife, Marie. They were married in October 1962 and shared more than 63 wonderful years together. Outside of work, Tom enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including boating, golfing, woodworking, and traveling with Marie. Following his retirement, they returned to Redmond, where Tom devoted himself to his lifelong passion for horses. He volunteered with the Senior Pro Rodeo and Healing Reins Equine Services, where he found deep fulfillment helping others gain comfort and confidence through equine therapy. It was there, he often said, that he witnessed miracles. In 2021, Tom and Marie moved back to the Portland area to be closer to family. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Marie; his children, Lori, Robb, and Julie; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Gresham. The Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the Gresham Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to Healing Reins Equine Services, 65325 Cline Falls Rd., Bend, OR 97703.
