Shirley Ann Dasso

We honor the life of Shirley Ann Dasso, who was born on March 31, 1934 in Portland, Oregon to Edward (John) and Katherine Wells.

Shirley attended St. Agatha's grade school and St. Mary's high school, both in Portland. The seventh and eighth grade classes shared the same room and that's how Shirley met her future husband Joe (who had just moved to Portland from Illinois). Shirley was in seventh grade and Joe was in eighth. They bot sung in the choir and together and were president (Joe) and vice-president (Shirley) of the Youmg People's Club. And, that's how they ultimately became more than classmates.

Shirley worked at the Bybee movie theater and Joe would walk her home (or get her to push his car home) after she closed the theater. After Joe finished a tour in the army, stationed at Fort Lewis, Shirley and Joe were married on September 24, 1955. Yes, seventy-one years ago, TODAY. Their honeymoon included a trip to Disneyland, which at the time was just opening.

Together, they built a life together in Portland where they raised 3 sons and were later blessed with 5 grand children and 4 great grand children.

Shirley is survived by her husband Joe, her son Paul and his wife Leanna, her son Mark and his wife Teresa and her son John.. Her legacy continues with her grand children Kim, Sarah, Michael, Sean and Chelsea and her great grand children Conner, Gavin, Mattie, and Arthur.

Shirley spent her life closely linked to her family. Attending countless baseball games and other family events. She started working as the school librarian at her sons' grade school St. Spephen's in southeast Portland. Later, she became the parish secretary. Eventually. when her children were older, Shirley worked as the secretary for Arch-Bishop Laveta, where she eventually retired.

Shirley loved her family and cherished family get togethers and trips. Her favorite destination was the beach, where she could watch the waves for hours at a time. She also enjoyed and was quite accomplished on the piano.

Shirley overcame Lupus, heart issues and other major health issues, but a fast-acting Lukemia was too much. Shirly was welcomed into eternal rest on September 6, 2026. She was surrounded by her husband, sons, daughters-in-law and one of her grandsons in her final moments.

Shirley's life was one of unwavering faith and love of family. Her memory will be treasured by all who were close to her, always.
