Sheryle “Sherry” Wilson Sopke, born in Coos Bay, Oregon, graduated from Lake Oswego High School before beginning her career as a statistical typist at Peat Marwick and Mitchell. It was there she met her husband, Bob. She later worked as an executive assistant at Hyster before devoting herself to her family as a homemaker.
Sherry and Bob celebrated 54 years of marriage this past July. Together, they raised three sons: Brian Sopke (Kim), David Sopke (Anne), and Craig Sopke (Melissa). She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and she delighted in supporting them at their sporting and school events.
Sherry loved traveling, with memorable trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and occasionally, Nevada. She was known for her neat, stylish, and casual elegance, always well-dressed and organized. Her home reflected the same care and tidiness she valued.
Besides caring for Bob and her family and home, she also took care of a series of well-loved family dogs. She loved her dogs. They had five of them over the years, and her favorite-- if you can say that-- was Farley, a clownish Airedale, appropriately named for comedian Chris Farley.
She enjoyed gardening, especially planting spring flowers and tall grasses around her home.
In her quiet moments, Sherry enjoyed watching Blue Bloods with Tom Selleck and other dramas. She liked reading mysteries and biographies and savoring good coffee and home-baked treats—especially Snickerdoodles—with family and friends. She was always on the lookout for the perfect cheesecake, though none ever surpassed the one her mother-in-law regularly baked.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Elizabeth Wilson. She is survived by her husband Bob, her three sons and their families, her brother Don Wilson, Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Portland, followed by a funeral Mass at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Therese Catholic Church.
Sherry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
