Phyllis Ann Gergen

Phyllis Ann Avery Gergen, age 92, a resident of Portland, OR passed away on September 3, 2026.

Phyllis was born December 2, 1933, in Selby South Dakota to Clinton H Avery and Grace E Sievert Avery. She lived there with her parents and siblings until 1940 when they moved to Portland OR.

In Portland Phyllis lost her father to Leukemia. Her Mom later remarried James Moravec. He became affectionally known as Grampy to them all. She attended grade school at St. Stephens, and later after moving to Milwaukee she attended St. Johns and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1952.

On February 25, 1956, she married the love of her life, Everard Franklin Gergen at the St. Anthony Church in Portland, OR.

They moved to Everard’s hometown of Eden, ID where they farmed with the Gergen family. During that time, they adopted Martin Gerard Gergen and James Richard Gergen to complete their family.

In 1970, they moved to Tillamook, OR. Where they opened the 4G’s Pancake & Seafood House. Phyllis and Everard worked alongside each other serving the community of Tillamook for 4 years. They then moved their family to Redmond OR where they became the owners of The Brand Steakhouse.

A couple of years later Everard decided to go back to farming and Phyllis worked hard to become a realtor in Redmond.

One of her favorite adventures was moving to Wasilla, AK, where she worked as a realtor and Everard as a customer farmer. During this time they enjoyed several great adventures, including an earthquake.

Later in life she moved to Boise ID to be closer to her sons. Eventually moving back to Portland, OR to be closer to her siblings.

She was proceeded in death by her spouse Everard Franklin Gergen December 14, 2007, her Father’s Clinton H Avery and James Moravec, her Mother Grace Moravec, her sister Pat Shannon and Brother Loren Avery.

Phyllis is survived by her sons Martin Gergen and James Gergen. Grandchildren Megan, Jacob, Brandee, Jason, Stacey, Sheena, Trisha and 18 Great Grandchildren and Sister Jeannine Houston.
