Rev. Patrick Michael McNamee passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on September 2, 2026, after more than five decades of faithful priestly ministry in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. Ordained a priest of Jesus Christ in 1970 by Archbishop Robert Dwyer, Fr. Pat devoted his life to proclaiming the Gospel in word and action, celebrating the sacraments, and accompanying people through life's joys and sorrows.
Those who knew him remember not only his priesthood, but also his warmth, humor, peaceful spirit, and genuine love for people.
Born in Portland, Oregon, on May 6, 1944, Fr. Pat was the only child of Irish immigrant (County Leitrim) Matthew McNamee and Ann McDonnell McNamee (who was the daughter of Irish immigrants). Fr. Pat was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and maintained a strong lifelong connection to the faith, traditions, and people of Ireland. Although an only child, Fr. Pat never lacked for family. He formed lasting friendships in every parish he served. His multi-generational cousins (McNamee, Mollahan, McDonnell, O'Halloran, Conroy and Dorigan families) became like brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, and he treasured his extended family throughout the United States and Ireland.
Fr. Pat faithfully served parish communities throughout western Oregon, where parishioners came to know him as a compassionate pastor who possessed a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and valued.
Fr. Pat is lovingly remembered by his extended family in the United States and Ireland, by his brother priests of the Archdiocese of Portland, by the many parish communities he served throughout western Oregon, and by countless others whose lives were enriched by his presence and ministry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any memorial contributions be made to either All Saints Parish (3847 NE Glisan St., Portland, OR 97232), or Mt. Angel Seminary (1 Abbey Drive, St. Benedict, OR 97373).
