Patricia Jean Dilg

April 3, 1936 — May 29, 2025

Portland, OR

Patricia (Pat) Jean Dilg, 89, of Portland, Oregon, peacefully passed away May 29, 2025 after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born April 3, 1936, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Darcy Carter and Margaret Amanda (Baribeau) Carter and had one younger sister, Barbara Joan (William) Markword. September 11, 1954, she married the father of her children, Ronald Francis Dilg in Portland.

Patricia graduated from St Mary’s Academy in Portland, Oregon and spent most of her life in the Portland area. During her childhood, however, she also lived briefly in Kansas, Arizona, Illinois and Salem, Oregon.

Her successful career began in 1971, with the City of Portland. She was first a clerk for 3 years and later became a Parking Patrol Officer. She was proud to be a representative of the City of Portland Parking Patrol, welcoming the Navy ships along the waterfront, from the United States and Canada. She retired from the Parking Patrol after 25 years.

She built many lifelong friendships with her coworkers who occasionally joined her for coffee at her home in Laurelhurst. Parking Patrol scooters lined her neighborhood street. Her two close friends, Mary and Ida, were always eager to lend a hand with rides to her numerous medical appointments. They also made regular visits to her home, providing invaluable support, particularly as her health continued to decline.

One of her friends said: “I loved having her as a coworker, a great friend, lunches we had, the good times we had, the fun we had doing the Rose Festival presentations, the sad times we had, the talks we had, (we could only talk about politics together because we were always on the same page). We thought alike. She gave me advice when I was unsure of something, and I would ask for input. She was the reason I started on supplements to have a healthier life. She was truly a great friend, and I will miss her terribly. I love you Pat”

Reading, genealogy, travelling, thrifting, Soduku, Line Dancing, yoga, and gardening on her patio were some of the things she enjoyed. She was a dedicated volunteer at her church, St Therese Parish, contributing her time assisting with washing the linens and, after church services, serving coffee and donuts.

She is survived by her children: Catherine Marie (John) Parisi, Margaret Therese Tarsia, Susan Carol Dilg and John Carter (Rosemarie) Dilg; her grandchildren: Tracy Elizabeth (Brian) Buchholz, Katie Ann Conrad, April Kalani Dilg, Meghan Lundy Dilg, Madelyne Patricia Dilg, Allison Ashley Rose Brown, and Alexander Allen Francis Brown; and five Great-Grandchildren.: Matthew Allen Conrad, Aubrey Michelle Conrad, Nicholas Angelo Cristofaro, Andrew Robert Cristofaro and Henry Francis Halverson; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former spouse, her sister, and her nephews: Michael Kent Whitmore, Raymond Eric Whitmore and David Mark Whitmore, her niece: Rachelle Marie Whitmore and her Grandnephew: Michael Ray Wichterman.

Patricia was a truly remarkable person and touched many lives.

She was a beautiful, intelligent, loving, caring, loyal, funny, and understanding woman and will be deeply missed.

Patricia will be interred at Mt Calvary Cemetery off SW Skyline Blvd. in Portland, June 20th at 2:30pm. A memorial is being planned and details will be announced when the date and time are confirmed.
