Michael Gregory Hayes

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Gregory Hayes on January 10, 2026, at the age of 19. Michael was born on June 1, 2006, and raised in Oregon City by his parents, Brian and Emily Hayes. He lived a life marked by extraordinary courage and strength, and a deep devotion to our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Michael lost his battle with Jeune syndrome, a rare inherited genetic disorder that leads to respiratory insufficiency. He faced his illness with unwavering courage and grace. Michael was known for his strong work ethic, commitment to academic excellence, and witty sense of humor. He was a graduate of Oregon City High School and a sophomore at George Fox University, where he was recognized on the Dean’s List throughout his college career. Michael also founded the Catholic social Discord server on campus to help connect young Catholic adults.

Michael is survived by his parents, Brian and Emily Hayes, his sisters, Kristina and Madelyn Hayes, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

His Funeral Mass will be held on January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry’s Catholic Parish in Gresham, Oregon, preceded by the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at Persimmon Country Club in Gresham. Burial will follow at Logan Pleasant View Cemetery in Oregon City. All are welcome.
