Maria Librada Genevive Hill

Maria Librada Genevive Hill nee Chavez, fondly known as Libby, peacefully passed away on September 27, 2023 in Portland Oregon at the age of 84. She was born on a snowy day, April 11, 1939, to Lucas DeJesus and Maria Ascension Chavez in LaJara, Colorado. Where she lived and grew up.

Libby was the youngest of a very large family with several half-siblings and nine older brothers. After graduating high school, she moved away from home and worked at The Allis Hotel where her ability to translate Spanish made her a valuable employee. She often spoke of her days at The Allis with pride.

Libby married her husband, Milton Hill, in 1959 and they started a family in Wichita, Kansas. In 1967 they moved to Portland, Oregon where they continued to raise their family.

Libby was a devout Catholic with a deep love for Our Lady and her Rosary which led her to take a Pilgrimage to Medjugorje.

Libby was dedicated to her family and was very active in her children’s lives which included their school and extracurricular activities. Most notably in her care of her special needs daughter, Korene.

Those who have been touched by Libby’s presence in their lives have expressed fond memories of her and commented on her sweetness, patience, and wry sense of humor.

Libby leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her children, Sheri Thomas, Mary Frances Hill, Robert Hill, Denise Taubert, and Michael Hill, her sons-in-law Herb Thomas and Kevin Taubert, her grandchildren Chahala Hill, Jessa Parker [Matt], Arielle Hill, Sahmie Riggs [Tyler], and Candis Hill & Gaije Duncan, her great-grandchildren Dante Cris, Lilly & Ever Parker, and Paul Grassi Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
