In Loving Memory of Laura Aguirre

 September 19, 1974 - November 29, 2025

Laura passed away on November 29, after fighting with a rare type of brain cancer for a bit longer than a year.

She was at home hospice lovingly surrounded by her husband Mariano, her children Max, Ephram and Laura, her parents Magdalena and Juan, her sister Celia and her brother Juan Carlos. From her childhood in Mexico, Laura displayed three characteristics that stayed with her throughout her life: a closeness to God, a love of teaching, and a desire to help others.

Her first job during high school was as a teacher in an elementary school, and later, after graduating with a law degree, she continued working as a professor at various universities in Puebla and Guadalajara. One of her motivations for working as a lawyer was to help people who were victims of injustice, especially those without the resources to defend themselves, not only legally but also by providing them with the strength and attitude to face different life scenarios.

Once she emigrated to Oregon, destiny gave her the opportunity to realize several of her aspirations, collaborating at the Mexican Consulate as Coordinator of the Financial Advisory Office.

There, she was able to offer help to the community through her conferences, videos, and personal consultations, providing financial information to anyone who needed it. Above all, as a strong representative and advocate for the value and capabilities of women, she helped several groups of women entrepreneurs formalize and realize their dreams of establishing an source of employment. Her ability to speak with people, and the great empathy that was easily felt when you were around her, led her to be surrounded by large groups of friends in all the places she lived. These same skills paved the way for what would be her most cherished job: Pastoral Associate at St. Juan Diego Parish, where she could coordinate activities, speak with many people, and what she considered most important: "serve God by helping people grow in their faith."

During one of her last stays in the Hospital, she mentioned this phrase that could summarize her life: "If God thinks I have served him enough here, I am ready to continue serving him from there."

En memoria de Laura Aguirre

Laura falleció el 29 de noviembre, tras luchar contra un raro tipo de cáncer cerebral durante poco más de un año.

Se encontraba en cuidados paliativos en su casa, rodeada con el amor de su esposo Mariano, sus hijos Max, Ephram y Laura, sus padres Magdalena y Juan, su hermana Celia y su hermano Juan Carlos. Desde su niñez en México, Laura mostraba tres características que le acompañaron a lo largo de la vida: cercanía a Dios, gusto por enseñar y ganas de ayudar al prójimo.

Su primer trabajo durante la preparatoria fue como profesora en una escuela primaria, y posteriormente después de graduarse como abogada, continuó laborando como profesora en diferentes universidades en Puebla y Guadalajara.

Una de sus motivaciones para laborar como abogada, era ayudar a las personas victimas de injusticias, sobre todo si no tenían recursos para defenderse, y no solo legalmente sino también en su actitud para afrontar las situaciones de la vida.

Una vez que emigró a Oregon, el destino le dio la oportunidad de concretar varias de sus inquietudes, colaborando en el Consulado Mexicano como Coordinadora de la Ventanilla de Asistencia Financiera. Ahí pudo ofrecer ayuda a la comunidad con sus conferencias, videos y consultas personales donde ofrecía información financiera a quien lo necesitara, pero sobre todo, como fuerte representante y defensora del valor y capacidades de las mujeres, ayudó a varios grupos de mujeres emprendedoras a formalizar y llevar a cabo sus sueños de establecer una fuente de empleo.

Su habilidad para hablar con las personas, y la gran empatía que fácilmente se podía sentir cuando se estaba a su lado, le llevó a estar rodeada de grandes grupos de amistades en todos los lugares donde vivió. Esas mismas habilidades le abrieron paso para llegar al que sería su mas preciado empleo, Asociada Pastoral en la Parroquia de San Juan Diego, donde podía coordinar actividades, hablar con muchas personas, y lo que ella consideraba más importante: "servir al Dios, ayudando a las personas a crecer en su fe".

Durante una de sus últimas estancias en el Hospital, mencionó esta frase que podría resumir su vida: "Si Dios piensa que ya le he servido suficiente aquí, estoy lista para seguir sirviéndole desde allá".
