Joshua Edgerton

January 26, 1983 — August 7, 2023

West Linn

Joshua Scott Edgerton, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandson, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in West Linn, Oregon on August 7th surrounded by his family, after battling brain cancer for over three years.

The oldest child of Ron and Kathleen Edgerton, Josh was born on January 26, 1983 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Seventeen months later, his brother Mike was born, and his sister Marie was born three years later in 1986. Josh grew up in West Linn along the Tualatin River and spent much of his time playing basketball, baseball, and soccer. He also enjoyed camping with his family and fishing with his grandpa, dad, brother, and uncles. His mother Kathleen says he was meant to be a big brother and excelled in looking out for his younger siblings.

After graduating from West Linn High School in 2001, Josh studied Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University and graduated with a B.S. in 2006. While at OSU, he joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity where he met some of his closest friends and endearingly became known as Torch for his distinctive red hair. He began his professional career with Turner Construction and, ten years later, he joined Howard S. Wright Construction. Every building he entered, he would observe and describe the design and construction, giving his own critique and thoughts along the way.

In 2016, Josh met Kelly Sunstrom. While dating, they went on many amazing adventures including scuba diving in Mexico, snorkeling in Hawaii, hiking up South Sister in Oregon, and touring through Italy. In 2018, Josh and Kelly got engaged while vacationing in Maui. The following year, they returned with their closest family and friends to be married on the beach in Kihei, Maui. They honeymooned in Germany for Oktoberfest and visited Josh’s cherished German relatives. Kelly says he was the love of her life, the perfect partner and teammate for tackling parenthood and life.

On August 2, 2021 Josh and Kelly welcomed their first child, Liam Joshua. As a family, they enjoyed cooking, traveling, and watching Liam chase their dog, Ralph, around their home. They welcomed their second child, Sophie Marie, on June 4, 2023 who has blazing red hair, just like her father. Josh was a loving father and husband, all while enduring multiple brain surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Throughout these trying times he showed unwavering strength and courage.

Josh was best known for his quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and strong loyalty toward family and friends. He was the person who always showed up for you. Josh was an avid sports fan and rooted for the Beavers and Seahawks. He loved reading, tasting new beers and whiskey, and entertaining the family with exaggerated stories.

He is survived by his wife Kelly, son Liam, and daughter Sophie; his parents, Ron and Kathleen; his brother Mike, sister-in-law Taryn, and niece Reese; his sister Marie, brother-in-law Kelly, and niece Ryann; his grandfather Richard, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We will miss our beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandson, friend, and colleague. The funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon on Thursday, August 24 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kelly, Liam, and Sophie Edgerton via Venmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/Josh-Kelly-Edgerton
