Janice Carol Bonomo

May 9, 1941 — April 6, 2025

Portland

Janice Carol Bonomo passed peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. She was surrounded by her loving family at her bedside

Janice is survived by her husband, Nick Bonomo; her three sons; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her son Scott and his wife Karen live in Seattle, WA. Their daughter Hannah and her husband Tristan Krause are raising Janice’s great-grandchildren—Cecilia, Colette, and Rosalie. Scott and Karen’s younger daughter, Lucy, also lives in Seattle. Her son Jim and his wife Elisabeth live in Sherwood, OR, with their daughter Sarah and son Eric. Her son Tom and his wife Alyssa reside in Greenwich, CT, with their sons Harry and Thomas.

Janice was born in Williston, North Dakota, on September 5, 1941, to Harley and Hazel Sundet. She had two younger brothers—David (deceased) and Don, who lives in Arizona. She graduated from Williston High School and continued her education at Minot State College, majoring in nursing.

In 1960, Janice moved to Dickinson, North Dakota, to begin her nursing residency at St. Joseph Hospital, specializing in surgery. She met her future husband, Nick Bonomo, in 1961, and they were married on November 24, 1962. After their honeymoon, Janice and Nick moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where she was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital on Harrison Street.

Janice joined the family business, Nickallan’s, in 1976, where she made a valuable impact on its continued success by forming many lasting relationships with customers.

Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She volunteered in her sons’ classrooms and remained active in their schools. She had a heart full of generosity, kindness, and friendship. She also volunteered many hours with hospice, offering comfort to others at the end of life.

Needlework was one of Janice’s passions. She often gathered with friends to knit caps for the regional hospital nursery. Everything she created—whether in needlepoint, cross-stitch, crocheting, or knitting—was exquisite. She loved walking with friends, sharing coffee and conversation, and building meaningful connections. Janice will be missed dearly by her many longtime friends in Corvallis and her newfriends in Portland. She was an inspiration—quiet, elegant, classy, and a forever friend.

Janice’s selflessness had no bounds. In 1969, when a neighbor was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Janice stepped in to be her caregiver until the end—while raising three small children and working the night shift at Good Samaritan Hospital. Nick was so very proud of his wife and honored to have married her.

Janice will also be deeply missed by her family and her beloved caregivers, Olga Iuhasz and Simona Lohr, who compassionately cared for her over the past four years. Her legacy is one of love, grace, and enduring generosity.

“My beloved JB, I will miss you forever.”
