James Harvey Rogers

September 17, 1928 — April 9, 2025

Milwaukie

Sept 17, 1928 – April 3, 2025

James (Jim) Rogers, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025 at his home in Milwaukie.

James grew up in rural town of Centerville, Iowa. After college, he served in the navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. Returning to Iowa after his tour, he met and married his wife of 68 years, Joanne.

James spent most of his career as a physics and algebra teacher at Clackamas High School.

During his tenure at Clackamas, he raised a family, acquired and worked on rental properties, and with his kids raised a myriad of animals at their suburban farm in Milwaukie.

After retirement in 1988, he and Joanne spent the next 20 years promoting child sponsorship through the organization Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. Their work with CFCA took them to virtually every Catholic church in Oregon, and many other states, as well as to countries in Central America, South America and Africa. By the time they retired they had found sponsors for over 13,000 children.

James is survived by his wife Joanne, their seven children, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
