JAMES A. HORACE
June 1, 1929 - July 9, 2022
James passed peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he became a proud University of Portland Pilot, a lifetime generous financial supporter of the school, and a member of the VIP Chiles Center Premier Donor Club. After graduation, he became a successful electrical instruments salesperson, receiving commissions from sales until his full retirement in 2020. A lifelong bachelor, James loved driving his Austin-Healy sports cars, traveling to Hawaii with friends and relatives, and taking yearly excursions with a group of his close Pilot fellow graduates. He was a devout member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
James was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Myrtle, and by his siblings: Virginia, Helen, Raymond and Lorraine; nephew James Prescott of Huntley, IL and niece MaryLou Devens of Ill.
He is survived by a large extended family including but not limited to his nieces and nephews: Patricia Scoby; Mary Prescott (Gus) Gustafson of Huntley, IL; Nancy Prescott (David) Poeling of St. Charles, MO; Robert Prescott (Kathie Chappe) of Cadiz, KY; Joe Mau; Cotty (Tom) Levak; Kevin (Ann) Horace; John Mau; Rita Kula; Janet Ell; and John Horace; by numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and by extended family members Jeannette and Kurt Christopher and their own family members.
While no formal funeral or celebration will be held, his interment will be 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 26 at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery, Happy Valley, Oregon.
