Billie Jane Bergman

Billie Jane Bergman died on July 16, 2026, at her home in Happy Valley in the presence of her loving family. She was 80 years old and had been in deteriorating health for several months.

She was born in Louisville, KY in 1946, the second of the three children of Bill & Catherine Shultz. Billie was a registered nurse, a former employee of The Children's Clinic and Pediatric Associates of Northwest, both of Portland, and had been retired since 2015.

She is survived by her husband, David; sons, Daniel and Joel; and daughter, Ricki Anne Newbury (Doug); as well as 5 grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, Drew, Lucy and Luke; and her sister, Gail Knachel of Libertyville, IL. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and her brother Steve Shultz of La Grange, KY.

A lifelong Catholic, Billie was active in organizations at St. John the Apostle parish in Oregon City, and at Holy Family parish in Portland. She had strong and long friendships with many women fellow parishioners at both locations. Her devotion to her family was amazing, and she will be greatly missed. She was grateful for the level of care she received from the many physicians in the Portland area who followed her medical situation.

Her Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church at S.E. Caesar Chavez Blvd. and Flavel St. on August 7th at 11:00am. A lunch reception will be held at the parish immediately after the end of the Mass. Billie will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
