Antra Kathleen Varani was born February 23, 1970, in Denver, Colorado to Frederick and Kathleen (Bengston) Varani. The oldest of ten Varani siblings, her youth was primarily spent in Evergreen and Boulder Colorado. Antra also spent time living abroad in Egypt and Japan with her mother and sister Natalie as a teenager.
Antra attended the University of Northern Colorado (Greeley) and Mesa College (Grand Junction) graduating with a degree in nursing. She was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy where she served as a Nurse from 1996 until 2001. She spent her five-year Navy career at Marine Corps bases in Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms, California where she met her husband, Mike Boyd. Antra and Mike were married on July 7, 2000, in San Diego, California. Antra and Mike welcomed a daughter (Morgan) in 2001 and a son (Collin) in 2004. She continued her nursing career in southern California and Oregon, where the family moved in 2004.
Antra continued her nursing education earning a master’s degree from Washington State University in 2016. In addition to her long tenure as an operating room nurse, Antra founded several independent companies with nurse colleagues to address problems she witnessed first-hand in the healthcare system. She was also a tireless volunteer within her children’s schools and local charity organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Insight Alliance. Antra’s top passions included fitness, live music, and the outdoors (particularly mountains, lakes, and the ocean).
Antra is survived by her husband Mike, daughter Morgan, son Collin, father Frederick, stepmother Annette, and siblings Natalie, Christopher, Gabrielle, Thomas, Hannah, Dominique, David, Jillian, and Joseph. She was a bright and loving presence throughout her life and her spirit lives on through her family and the countless people who called her friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Antra’s name can be made to the Insight Alliance, Meals on Wheels, or the Oregon Humane Society.
