Funeral Home FAQ's

  • What is our local service area?

Our service area covers Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties in Oregon and Clark County in Washington State. If we travel outside of a 30 mile radius from the funeral home, additional mileage fees may apply.

  • What services do we provide?

We are a full service funeral home qualified and able to meet your needs in all aspects of final arrangements for either burial or cremation.

  • Does my loved one have to be embalmed?

Except in special cases, embalming is not required by law. However, embalming may be necessary if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with a viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial.

  • Where will my loved one be prepared for burial or cremation?

Gethsemani Funeral Home is a newly constructed building with our own embalming room, preparation area and on-site crematory. Our licensed funeral directors are also licensed embalmers and certified cremationists and will care for your loved ones entirely in our own facility from the moment they enter our care.

  • Do I have to be buried at Mt. Calvary or Gethsemani Catholic Cemeteries if I use Gethsemani Funeral Home?

No, we serve all cemeteries, both private and public, to include Willamette National Cemetery.

  • Can anyone use Gethsemani Funeral Home for their funeral service needs?

Yes, we serve all faiths in our community. However, memorial services held on site must be respectful and consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Can I scatter, divide or commingle my loved ones cremated remains?

Once the cremated remains leave our facility the nearest of kin controls the disposition of the remains. However, our funeral home was opened to serve the Catholic community and we adhere to the teachings of the Catholic church. We will not  promote or assist in the scattering, dividing  or commingling of cremated remains and encourage placement of remains in a cemetery.

  • Are you open on weekends and holidays?

Yes, but funeral services may be limited on religious holidays and Sundays. However, we are available 24/7 to care for your loved ones.
